Our "Survival Rations" included whatever we found in the pantry — Teddy Grahams, chocolate chips, slivered almonds, whole grain cereals, marshmallows, pretzles and dried cranberries.
Our result: Family Adventure Night!
We downloaded the activity sheet to see what we’d be doing, and ended up spending the afternoon building a fort together and mixing up some Island Chow, which we improvised using whatever we could find in the pantry. We called the mix our “Survival Rations.” Then we collected all the pillows and blankets we could carry to build our fort. My 4-year-old loves the fort so much, she asked if she could keep it up forever. (Well, forever is a very long time, but maybe for a few days.)
Needless to say, I owe Warner Bros. a big “Thank You” for helping to make our rainy day a lot of fun!

About the Movie
For those who aren’t already familiar with the story, in Journey 2: The Mysterious Island Sean Anderson (Josh Hutcherson, The Hunger Games) finds a hidden signal that he believes will lead him to his long lost grandfather (Michael Caine, Miss Congeniality). With the help of his new step father (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, The Scorpion King), Sean finds a map and begins his adventure, which leads him to the island of Atlantis. He and his friends must battle giant bees, killer lizards, a volcano of gold, and electric eels to escape the lost city and make their way home!
If you didn’t get the chance to see Journey 2: The Mysterious Island in the theater, the movie will be shown at Pier 60 Sunset Theatre on Friday, June 29. It’s part of the Sunsets at Pier 60, a free family festival that includes artisans, crafters, street performers and musical entertainment, as well as a beautiful Florida sunset. Bring blankets or beach chairs and watch the movie on a jumbo screen.
