If you are still looking for something to do after that big Thanksgiving dinner, why not go skating! United Skates of America will have their doors open to the public from 7-9 p.m. Thanksgiving Day. It will only cost a dollar per person to enter and if you don’t have your own skates, you can rent a pair for one dollar. So skate that turkey off and have fun doing it!

FREE Family Cooking Classes

KitchenWhat’s the Freebie?
Parents and kids cooking together can be a rewarding and delicious experience! That’s why the Fit4Allkids program at All Children’s Hospital offers FREE family cooking classes several times a year. These classes are designed for children age 8 and older, and at least one parent/adult must participate along with them. During each 5-week session, families learn about healthy foods and basic culinary skills, while gaining confidence in the kitchen. The goal of these classes is to:
Learn about foods we eat (and maybe about some foods we don’t eat, but should)
Learn the skills necessary to create quick, delicious and nutritious meals
Learn how to make healthy food choices

Sponsored by Kohl’s Department Stores, the classes are FREE to all families, but space is limited and pre-registration is required. What’s Doing?
Your whole family will be astounded by the beauty of more than 500,000 lights illuminating the thousands of plants and trees throughout the Florida Botanical Gardens. Kick-off this holiday season by experiencing the annual Holiday Lights, enjoy nightly family-friendly entertainment, and browse vendor booths and the Botanical Bounty gift shop for special holiday gifts. Santa Claus will be on hand whenever he can get away from the North Pole.

There will also be some special events taking place at the Gardens this December:
— Gift and Plant Sale (Sunday, Dec. 11; 10 a.m.-4 p.m.): This day-long event takes place in the formal gardens with more than 45 vendors selling plants and specialty gift items. Entry to the Gardens is FREE during the daylight hours.
— Dog Parade (Saturday, Dec. 31; 2 p.m.): Register your pet between 1-1:45 p.m. The cost to participate is $5/dog/category. Six categories are available: best costumed, sit and stay on command, best trick, best smile, most handsome boys, and prettiest girls. You can also visit vendors booths from 12-4 p.m.
