Holiday Hayrides

What’s Doing?
Pinellas Park Recreation will offer free hay rides this Thursday. Holiday movies will be shown as riders wait for a ride, and refreshments will be served after the ride. Riders should arrive 30 minutes prior to their ride time. Children age 16 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Come and enjoy this FREE holiday event.

Pinellas Park Holiday Parade

Time: 6 p.m.

Location: The parade begins at Park Blvd. and 58th Street (rail road tracks) and proceeds eastbound to The Shoppes at Park Place. For the parade, Eastbound Park Blvd. is closed from 66th Street North to 40th Street North (The Shoppes at Park Place). (The line up area consists of Park Blvd. and 66th Street to Park Blvd. and 58th Street the railroad tracks.)

What’s Doing?
This is the 38th Annual Holiday Parade and the 13th Year as a night parade. The theme for this year’s parade is “The Twelve Days of Christmas.” The parade begins at Park Blvd. and 58th Street (rail road tracks) and proceeds eastbound to The Shoppes at Park Place.

People begin showing up on Park Blvd. to set up their lawn chairs around 4:30 p.m. at the earliest as Park Blvd., as not fully shut down until 4 p.m. You are encouraged to bring your lawn chairs, blankets, etc. to enjoy the parade. There aren’t designated parking areas for spectators; many walk from their homes nearby. Usually there is parking available at First Baptist Church, Park Plaza, Home Depot, and the Shoppes at Park Place, but parking is at your own risk.

For those with special needs, there is a wheelchair seating area located in front of Taylor Family Funeral Home on the south side of Park Blvd. at the intersection of 53rd Street. For pick up and drop off purposes, this seating area is best accessed from 70th Avenue. If you are a caregiver, etc and would like more information, please call the parade hotline: (727) 547-8050.

What’s Doing?
Come to beautiful Largo Central Park to delight in the extravagant light display as you stroll through Story Land. A million LED lights (85% more energy efficient) brighten the path. The playful scenes they depict will surely dazzle you. Ooh and ahh when we light up the tree at 7 p.m. Take pause at each of the picnic shelters to experience some of your favorite holiday stories. Treat yourself with a variety of delicious festival foods and desserts.

Enjoy live performances on the mobile stage and other special places around the park. Entertainment will feature aerial acrobatics, dancing, singing, and puppets. Performers will include Dance & Circus Arts of Tampa Bay, LHS Madrigal Singers, LHS Band of Gold, Tutterow Dancers, Florida Fanfare Brass, Largo Smuppets, and more.

Santa’s Open House in Oldsmar

What’s Doing?
Get ready for a fun holiday open house with fire truck rides, photos with Santa, and refreshments!

On Saturday, the fire department will open its doors and invite the community to attend a holiday open house. The evening will include:
* rides on antique fire trucks
* Arts & Crafts: kids creating eco-friendly tree ornaments and hanging them on the fire stations lighted exterior Christmas tree
* FREE photos with the jolly old elf himself, Santa Claus!
* Light refreshments: coffee, hot chocolate, popcorn and cookies will be provided.

Santa will be arriving in grand style and will visit the fire station throughout the evening so that children may get their picture taken with him. Each picture will be presented in a holiday card frame, FREE of charge.

What’s Doing?
Bring the kids to meet Santa at the Henry B. Plant Museum in Tampa. The jolly one will be out on the veranda listening to children’s wishes, handing out trinkets and smiling for pictures. Parents are encouraged to bring their own camera to take photos. Reservations not required.

While you’re there, you might want to check out the Victorian Christmas Stroll, going on from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. daily through Thursday, December 23, 2010. Beneath towering silver minarets, an extravagantly adorned former Tampa Bay Hotel captures the spirit of the season – Victorian style. There are 14 exhibit rooms; each dazzling with trimmed trees uniquely designed in 19th century themes and antique holiday accessories. While strolling down the Grand Hallway, your spirits will soar as you become immersed in carolers singing, Charles Dickens, much loved toys and wrapped gifts, Christmas stockings and Old Saint Nick.

Looking for unique holiday gifts? The Museum Store has a huge selection of merchandise, from gorgeous ornaments to silver serving pieces and exquisite holiday accessories. The Museum Store also offers books, fragrances, jewelry, children’s toys, stationery, and home accessories. Enjoy shopping in a unique Victorian atmosphere: the Museum Store is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily and no admission is required.
