What’s Doing?
Families are invited to participate in a commemorative walk in support of families living with Hydrocephalus and related neurological conditions. The Pinellas Park Police Explorers Post 912 will make the Presentation of Colors, and the families will be cheered on by the Clearwater Central Catholic Cheerleaders. There will also be music and fun in the park during the special event co-sponsored by HUGS of Florida and the City of Largo.

DJ Rob Snyder will be the Master of Ceremonies, along with Miss Universe Kellie Lightbourne. Members of the 501st Legion are expected to make an appearance with Darth Vader, plus Ronald McDonald, Nurse BandiAid with the Uptown Clowns, and Mayor Gerard will be on-site during the event as well.

What’s Doing?
Join the Armed Forces History Museum for this fun family Halloween event. Kids can search for treats in a scavenger hunt, play games, make crafts, participate in a costume contest, and more. The AFHM will also offer Spooktacular rides on their Gama Goat, a six-wheel drive, semi-amphibious off-road vehicle developed for the US Military during the Vietnam War.

Even Better! Guests can take a ride on through a “Haunted Castle” in the Museum’s Motion Simulator Theater, similar to those found at Universal Studios.

What’s Doing?
Bring the kids to the Armed Forces History Museum to interact with a variety of military vehicles and see presentations and drills by WWII reenactors from the 1st Infantry Division.

At 11 a.m., Michael V. Ralph, historian and artist of “Titanic – A Voyage in Art” will present the history of the Titanic. Ralph’s exhibit of 27 original acrylic paintings has been extended through August 27, 2012. The presentation is free with the purchase of a museum admission ticket.

Even Better! The Bloodmobile will be on-site from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., and visitors who donate blood will receive complimentary admission to the Museum.

What’s Doing?
“Shiver me timbers! Largo Aquatics invites you to come aboard the pirate ship and hunt for hidden treasure at this year’s Splash’s Treasure Hunt.” This year’s new location — Southwest Pool — is due to construction at the Highland Recreation Complex.

Children ages 10 and under will enjoy age-appropriate hunts (up to 4 yrs, 5-7 yrs, 8-10 yrs.) for treasure hidden all around Southwest Pool. All ages can take advantage of a special 4-hour swim session and visit with Ye Mystic Krewe of the Santa Margarita Pirates.

Even Better! There will be FREE hot dogs and Chick-fil-A sandwiches (while supplies last), chair massages and door prizes at this family-friendly event!

What’s Doing?
The City of Largo and Largo Recreation, Parks & Arts Department welcomes the community to the groundbreaking ceremony of the new state-of-the-art Highland Recreation Complex. The 40,000-square-foot facility will feature an indoor running track, 3-story indoor playground, ExerPlay! Room (digital/interactive fitness games), and more. The building was designed by Tampa architects Gould Evans and is being built by Creative Contractors of Clearwater. Check out the design plans, which will be on display at the groundbreaking ceremony, and staff will be on-site to answer questions you may have about the new facility. Light refreshments will be served.

The current Highland Recreation Complex and Highland Family Aquatic Center will remain open to the public during construction. The completion of the new Highland Recreation Complex is set for May, 2013.
