What’s Doing?
Nearly every month, the Center holds a FREE Books and Art for Kids event where hundreds of gently-used books are distributed to local children to encourage them to read. Every child may take home up to five gently-used books. These books are donated by families and organizations.

At each event, the Community Learning Center provides snacks, arts and crafts, and face painting, and they often have a children’s book author attend to read a book to the kids.

6th Annual American Girl Fashion Show FlyerThe Junior League of Manatee County has announced their 6th Annual American Girl Fashion Show® will take place on March 1, 2014 at the Renaissance in Bradenton, FL. Join them in celebrating being a girl, both yesterday and today, through a colorful presentation of historical and contemporary fashions. Guests will enjoy elegant refreshments and learn how clothing has changed over the years to reflect history, culture, and girls’ individual styles.

Mom, bring your little American Girl (recommended for age 6+) for a one-of-a-kind American Girl Fashion Show® experience! Festivities will include:
— Showcase of historical and contemporary fashions by American Girl
— Pink carpet experience to purchase American Girl Fashion Show® items

— Photo opportunities
— American Girl Fashion Show® goody bag for each child in attendance

Each of the shows will also includes light refreshments. Here’s what to expect:
— 10 a.m. show will be served with assorted pastries and fruit salad
— 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. shows will be served a gourmet wrap with chips, fruit or pasta salad and small dessert
Plus, water, coffee, tea and lmonade will be served at all of the shows.

Celebrity Hosts
The Junior League of Manatee County’s American Girl Fashion Show has been fortunate to have inspiring female role models serve as celebrity hosts for our event. Each show time will feature a celebrity host. JLMC chooses strong women in the community who have a passion for charity, service and helping children in need in the Manatee County community. Summer Smith from Bay News 9 will be hosting again this year.

Lil’ Angels Photography will graciously be providing a photo booth for all guests to create a special memento from the occasion. No appointment necessary. Order forms will be available day of show, and are also available in advance by clicking here.

Raffles
Buy a raffle ticket from Junior League of Manatee County, and you could win one of the great prizes shown below. Raffle tickets will also be sold at the Fashion Show, and upon arrival at the Fashion Show, each guest will receive a door prize ticket as well. The Pink Carpet large raffle item tickets are $5 each and enter you into a drawing of prizes valued up to $200, including American Girl® dolls and accessories. Funds raised through the raffle ticket sales will benefit foster kids and other children in need in the Manatee County community.

Model Information
A casting call will be held from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Bradenton Farmer’s Market on Saturday, November 30, 2013. Download a Volunteer Fashion Show Model Information Sheet and complete the Volunteer Fashion Show Model Application Form. Model applications with a full-color photograph may also be submitted via e-mail to agfsjrleaguemanatee@gmail.com.

What’s Doing?

FREE Sign Language Classes for Kids and Adults

What’s the Freebie?
The Deaf Literacy Center offers a variety of American Sign Language (ASL) classes for children and adults through the Pinellas Public Libraries. Fall 2013 ASL courses begin as soon as September 5. Check the Fall 2013 American Sign Language Courses schedule to see which classes are being offered at local library branches in Pinellas County.

NOTE: Registration is required for these classes. Please contact the library branch directly for more information and to register.

The Deaf Literacy Center has four library locations:
— Safety Harbor Public Library
— Palm Harbor Public Library
— Pinellas Park Public Library
— St. Petersburg South Branch Library
