In another lifetime … before I was known as “Momma” … I had another identity as a Graphic Designer. My career began in magazines, and to this day I love to explore their pages. This week a new magazine crossed my desk; one I had not yet encountered. It combines two loves of mine — clean, beautiful design and the idea of sustainable living.
Natural Child World
Modern. Creative. Sustainable.
I received two issues of Natural Child World to read and review — May/June 2012: The Jack & Jill Issue and November/December 2012: The Happiness Issue.
The May/June issue features a nice mix of articles we’ve come to expect in parenting magazines — the benefits of breastfeeding, ideas for creating a Pinterest-worthy baby shower, healthy eating, kid fashions, etc. — peppered with surprises like a discussion on pediatric acupuncture; hard-to-find products like “Teddy Needs a Bath” (the first washer and dryer bag for toys); a piece by and about Mompreneur Gari Czako, founder of Sweet Lucie’s Ice Cream (you can find it at Whole Foods Market); and a simple raw foods recipe (“Berry Beautiful Chia Bowl”) I can’t wait to try. The biggest surprise, however, is that when you get to page 72, you get to flip the magazine over to the back for a whole new magazine with a refreshing and unique perspective on parenting — dad’s! Finally, a parenting magazine that puts dad into the equation.
Skip to November/December 2012: The Happiness Issue. Just flipping through the gracefully-designed pages of eco-friendly holiday decorations, kid’s clothing and gift ideas made me happy. I stopped along the way to learn about Wantful (a new way to give a gift card) and meet the co-founders of The Honest Company, “A Happy Dad,” and the magazine’s roving 8-year-old reporters. In my opinion, the story ideas and execution were as engaging as the overall design.
In reviewing these two issues, I found that Natural Child World draws you in with it’s beauty and keeps you there with truly unique finds and articles that offer us and opportunity to learn about, explore and reflect on alternative choices and alternative ways to raise our children. But for those who also like the comfort of an old friend, the articles on “Sugar: Friend or Foe,” how to feel sexy when you’re a mom, food sensitivities and strollers are still there.
Giving Back
Natural Child World magazine doesn’t just talk the talk. The company actually donates a percentage of all advertising profits to non-profit organizations that work to support the health and well being of disadvantaged children all over the world “because every baby deserves a healthy start.”

Thanks to Cai Dixon, Producer at Copy-Kids, for hooking us up with this giveaway!

To be honest, my husband does most of the cooking in our house. But my five-year-old really loves to cook, so I’m always on the lookout for quick and easy recipes she and I can create together to give daddy a night off. Plus, I think cooking together is a great way to have fun with your kids while they learn an important skill they will appreciate the rest of their lives. So, I thought you and your kids might have some fun in the kitchen this month creating a unique, tasty Italian recipe that could at least score you a cool Tuttorosso® apron to sport whenever you all get creative in the kitchen.
