What’s Doing?
Stop by the Weedon Island open classroom anytime between 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, July 14 to participate in self-guided estuary activities. This week’s theme is “Discover Your Watershed,” where children and families will learn how what happens in our yards, streets and neighborhoods can affect our Bay and waterways. (Recommended for families with children of all ages.)
Upcoming event themes:
— Saturday, July 28 (1-3 p.m.): Discover Plankton — Discover some of the smallest critters that live in Tampa Bay (Self-guided activity recommended for age 8+)
— Thursday, August 16 (1-2 p.m.): Scallop Study — Pinellas County Sea Grant invites your participation in a Florida Fish and Wildlife Research Institute sponsored research study of bay scallops. The program will provide an overview of Bay Scallop Ecology, following which participants will help to measure and track the progress of caged bay scallops at Weedon Island Preserve. (Recommended for all ages) NOTE: Registration is required for this one, and there are only a few spaces remaining!
— Saturday, August 25 (1-3 p.m.): Fun with Fish Ear Bones … Can You Hear Me Now? — Learn about fish ear bones, called otoliths, which tell much about the fish and the water where it lives. (Recommended for all ages)
