Fun Food Activities for Play Dates

Let’s face it, everyone at some point loves to play with their food. It’s hard not when there are so many different ways to do it, and so many cool things you can create! Have fun with your kids by trying some of these at your home or next playdate.

Make Hairy Hotdogs:
These are super easy to make and lots of fun to eat. Who would have thought that putting spaghetti and hot dogs together could be adventurous!

— What You Need: Uncooked spaghetti or linguini and hot dogs

— Instructions: You can choose to cut up your hot dog first or not — either way works fine. And you can use any kind of hot dog you prefer. My son likes cheese dogs so that’s what we use. Take your uncooked spaghetti and “string” it through the hot dog. Then drop your hot dog in boiling water. Leave it in long enough for the spaghetti to cook. Once it’s done, take it out and eat it. You’ll notice the hot dog looks like it has hair now! Enjoy!

Build a Structure:
It doesn’t have to look like anything to make sense. Let your imagination run wild.

— What You Need: Cheese cubes and toothpicks

— Instructions: Stick the toothpicks in the cheese and add a piece of cheese to the other end. That’s it. Just keep adding to make your little house into a mansion. Take a picture of your structure and send it to us. We would love to see what you came up with.

Ants on a Log:
Not real ones, silly. They only look real.

— What You Need: Celery, raisins and peanut butter
(or cream cheese, if you prefer)

— Instructions: After you wash the celery it’s up to you if you want to cut it into smaller sizes. Some stores sell pre-cut celery ready-to-eat. Take some peanut butter (or cream cheese) and smear it on the celery in the grove. Once you are happy with the peanut butter amount, place raisins on the top. Add as many “ants” as your heart desires. Take a step back and see that they look like “ants on a log”. Eat and enjoy!

Twigs and Trees:
Another fun, simple, non-cooking activity to invent. With little-to-no mess!

— What You Need: Pretzel sticks and lettuce or any other leafy vegetable

— Instructions: Use the pretzel sticks to create the “Twig” branches, and use lettuce, cabbage, kale or raw spinach for the leaves. Poke the pretzels through the lettuce so it looks like a tree. If you want it to stand on it’s own, you can put a scoop of peanut butter on a plate and stick the end of the pretzel in the peanut butter. Voila!
