FREE Music Classes, Piano Lessons for Children at USF

What’s Doing?
USF is conducting two music-related research studies and they are looking for children and parents interested in participating. What does this mean for you and your child? The potential benefits of participating in this research study may include learning more about music and how to create it. Plus, it’s FREE!

Here’s what they are working on, and how your family can benefit:

Fostering Creativity in Musical Development Preschool Music Program
This study looks at the effects of a Preschool Music program on creativity, musicianship and verbal fluency in children age 4-6.

What You Receive: Participating children and their parents/caregivers will get to enjoy FREE weekly music classes.

Criteria for Eligibility:
To be eligible to participate in these FREE music classes, your child must meet the following criteria:
— Between the ages of 4-6
— Native English speaker
— Less than three months of formal musical training
— Not currently practicing an instrument or reading music
— No history of learning disabilities
— No history of psychological impairment
— Must have a parent/legal guardian willing to attend all 6 music classes (45 minutes each).

If eligible, your child will be asked to complete a series of cognitive and musical tests. Testing sessions will be scheduled around your schedule, and there is no cost for participating.

Note: The testing can last up to 2 hours but your child does not have to complete the entire test in that time. If you would like, you can come back another day. Also, USF monitors parking so be sure you get a parking pass before you park. Click here for a stress-free guide to parking at USF. Click here for parking services.
